YWAM GO Conference

YWAM GO Conference 2013 * October 14-18th * Gull Lake - Lacombe, Alberta

Save The Date

What is the GO Conference?
2000 years ago, looking at the task of reaching the world with the good news, Jesus instructed his disciples to "ask the Lord of the Harvest to send workers into the harvest field". The GO conference is an action-packed week of learning about the nations of the world and responding to God in worship and intercession for the least reached. The Lord of the Harvest is inviting us to join Him in what He's doing. Special speakers, intercession for the unreached, interactive displays and a variety of workshops are only a few of the activities on this year's schedule. Tell a friend, bring your DTS, invite your neighbor!

SAMPLE - GO 2012: DAILY UPDATE - DAY 4 - Learning About GOing

God is sure at work here! This whole week has been a time of learning and growing in knowledge of God and different missions that are at work in many parts of the world – and we only highlighted a few!

Workshop

Saskia started our time of intercession this morning with prayer for those involved with human trafficking. More than just crying to God out of grief, we prayed in hope and joy for freedom for the victims, redemption for the perpetrators, and strength for those who are striving to bring justice. Our frame for this time was Psalm 10, which begins with complaints to God against the wicked, and ends by praising him for his mercy and intervention into those situations.

Outfits

There were a number of different workshops to choose from; I went to Missions 101, in which Tanya continued the journey through the Bible to make the point that we are “Blessed to be a blessing” - through the prophets and in Jesus' life, God kept calling his people to GO into ALL the world, and be a blessing. I also went to the workshop on how to adjust to life after DTS; the main points were: don't worry about what you will do at this point; don't be afraid to just pick something and go with it; and keep the communication lines open with your fellow DTS classmates and staff afterwards.

Discussion

I loved the cultural fair this afternoon. There were different booths for a number of different countries, in Asia and Africa. We got a taste of what it is like in those places, through pictures, slideshows, the perceptions of those who've been there, and even cultural drinks and snacks. These “visits” to different countries sparked interest in a lot of people, and I for one am excited to learn more.

One enjoyable activity was an impromptu dance before evening worship – bring on the barn dance! We also had a wonderful performance by two elementary-aged girls, who sang a song that they wrote on their own initiative.

Kids Worship

Jeff made the most of his last time speaking by giving us a lengthy account of his trip through Central Asia to find a remote tribe and share Jesus. By driving through rivers and hiking mountains, they came to these people who had never heard the name of Jesus before. Over a number of trips in different years, they were able to bring an audio Bible and music to these people, and just this year established a school there – in what is actually the middle of nowhere. God is alive, and he is definitely at work.

Previous Speakers

Last year we were pleased to have Jeff W. from K-stan as our special speaker for the 2012 GO Conference.

Jeff W

Jeff is married to his wife and (and superhero partner) Beckie whom he met in K-stan.  They were married in 2000 and have a daughter, Rain, and son, Sage.  He has been a part of YWAM since 1999 and has been living in K-stan since 2001.

While working with YWAM in Colorado, Jeff and Beckie have led DTS's, outreaches, Mission Adventures and helped to pioneer a leadership school called The Morph.  Since moving to K-stan, they have been focused on seeing Jesus expressed through addressing the physical as well as the spiritual needs of individuals and communities, trusting that as people see and experience the goodness of Jesus through word and deed, their hearts will be changed.

In 2004 they started Crosslink Development International (CDI) in K-stan. CDI is a holistic community development organization founded on the belief that changed societies will begin with changed individuals.

Jeff has a passion to see young (and less young) people going to the hardest places on earth - being transformed by the goodness of Jesus and committing to radical lifestyles of obedience.

Since 2007 Jeff & Beckie have also been focusing on a group of Kyrgyz nomads who live in one of the most remotely inhabited places on earth:  the Pamir mountains of A-stan.  This group of 1500 people live above 14,000ft (4000m) with no access to electricity, medicine, roads, or even fruit. Jeff is leading yearly expeditions to bring the Good News through educational and medical development as well as prayer, spiritual warfare and EV through relationships.

Previous Speakers

We also had the privilege of having Saskia Wishart as one of our special guest speakers!

Saskia Wishart

Saskia came with several years experience in taking action against human trafficking; from prevention, to identification, to intervention, to bringing dignity through new futures. She has developed the ability to articulate the complexities of modern-slavery while staying true to her passion for individual freedom. Saskia did her DTS in Denver Colorado in 2008 and then moved to South Africa to work with YWAM full time. She got involved with international non-profit Not For Sale in 2009 and went on to co-found Not For Sale’s international projects in both South Africa and the Netherlands. Currently she lives and works in Amsterdam on a social enterprise that seeks to empower vulnerable women through training and community.
